Makery@LA is a radical rethink of urban living — a mixed-use, micro-urban model that transforms a single residential lot into a vibrant ecosystem of shared housing, social infrastructure, and local economies.
At its core, Makery@LA replaces the outdated one-house-per-parcel approach with a dynamic, modular framework where three families, three businesses, and three shared spaces coexist on a 500m² site. It’s not just about building more—it’s about living better, together.
The project blends co-living units, communal living rooms, and neighborhood-scale maker spaces that support micro-entrepreneurs, artists, and food producers. Gardens become gathering spaces. Garages become co-working hubs. Living rooms turn into sites of everyday ritual and exchange. Each element is designed to encourage connection, care, and coexistence.
Built from locally sourced mass timber, Makery@LA embraces circularity, passive performance, and off-the-grid resilience. It proposes a low-carbon, high-impact model for future development—affordable, inclusive, and adaptable.
Makery@LA is more than housing.
It’s a prototype for a slower, healthier, more interconnected city—where space is shared, economies are local, and homes are designed not only for privacy, but for community.
