A Modular Learning Ecosystem Inspired by Collective Memory and Techniques
Mali Urban School redefines the educational environment by merging traditional Malian architecture with a forward-thinking, modular spatial system. The design is rooted in the region’s rich heritage, drawing from traditional forms, materials, and community-driven spaces while introducing adaptability and contemporary learning methodologies.
The school’s architectural language is based on flexible geometric modules that can expand and adapt according to needs, much like the organic growth of traditional settlements. Inspired by the earthen textures and curved structures of Mali’s vernacular architecture, the design integrates perforated facades, natural ventilation, and dynamic play spaces to create a stimulating and sustainable learning environment.
Beyond its aesthetic and spatial composition, Mali Urban School is a social infrastructure, fostering interaction and collaboration. The courtyards and shared spaces act as extensions of the learning process, blending indoor and outdoor education seamlessly. By reinterpreting traditional building techniques with modern construction methods, the project ensures a sustainable, climate-responsive, and culturally rich educational experience. This is more than a school—it is a living, evolving space that nurtures creativity, identity, and community engagement.
